Our Interns for 2014 have been selected. Applications for 2015 will be accepted from September 2014 onwards.
For over 30 years, Tan-Tar-A Resort has been privileged to welcome students from all over the world to our ever-growing internship program.
Voted by Lake Lifestyles Magazine "Best Place to Stay on the Water" in 2013, and a leader in the hospitality industry, Tan-Tar-A Resort offers a paid educational work experience at an award-winning resort that includes structured rotations, observation of other departments, interesting and useful seminars, special intern projects and regular feedback opportunities.
We welcome students May through November each year, on three month programs or longer. Those students who stay for an extended period of time usually rotate through more than one department. Our program encourages students to share experiences, set goals for learning, identify self-improvement and understand performance expectations. The special intern projects are a unique opportunity to demonstrate skills and learning and rise to new challenges.
Tan-Tar-A Resort is currently recruiting interns for Spring/Summer 2014. We would love to hear from you!
Applicants to the program must:
- currently be studying a hospitality-related subject
- require an internship for credit or an essential part of their formal studies
- be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evening and holidays
Interns will experience one main department.
Restaurants: Learn the practical duties of a casual dining restaurant, fine dining restaurant and food court operation. Learn budget processing, forecasting, payroll, scheduling and other hotel operations.
Catering: Learn the various roles within banquets and catering operations, from planning office operations to service and after-event follow-up. Shadow Audio and Visual specialists and observe the sales office or the food and beverage teams that work behind the scenes.
Culinary: Experience a variety of kitchen facilities on property, including a high volume banquet kitchen and both a casual and and fine dining restaurant, as well as storerooms, purchasing, receiving and requisitions.
Beverage: Be part of a wide variety of beverage functions, including lounge, restaurant, banquets, poolside and liquor room, and observe management duties such as scheduling and wage control.
Front Office: Practice and perfect your customer service skills on front desk, PBX (hotel operators), guest services, night audit and rooms control. Dip a toe into the world of housekeeping to fully understand the check in/check out process. Students are required to fulfill a six month commitment.
Housekeeping: Join the "heart and soul" of the resort and see what it takes to uphold the very highest standards of cleanliness and customer service. Discover new muscles while gaining a true appreciation for room control and the strongest work ethics. Housekeeping is an essential background program to support future Front Desk Managers.
The internship experience is further enhanced by opportunities to work, shadow or observe as many other departments as you can fit in to your time. With full support from your departmental managers, Human Resources, Directors and General Manager, our Interns are guaranteed an experience of a lifetime, unrivaled learning opportunities, lifelong friendships and memories.
